Who needs a visa to study in Germany?

Certain international students intending to study in Germany are exempt from obtaining a visa, including those from the European Union, the European Economic Area, Switzerland, Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and the United States. Moreover, students from China, Hong Kong, Macao (with a Special Administrative Region passport), and Taiwan (with an identity card number) enjoy this exemption. Also, students from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, and Ukraine (with a biometric passport) fall under this category. Additionally, Andorra, Brazil, El Salvador, and Honduras students are exempt, as long as they do not seek separate employment before or after their degree. However, international students from other countries not mentioned must secure a visa to commence their PhD studies in Germany.
